Tobias Vlćek

Hello, I’m Tobias. I research at the University of Hamburg, where I also did my doctorate in Business Administration with an emphasis on operations research. My dissertation, Essays on Applied Optimization, started most of the threads you will find here, and I am now working towards my habilitation at the Institute of Logistics, Transport and Production with Prof. Dr. Knut Haase.

I work on optimization problems that come out of day-to-day operations: metro systems that have to keep moving during major events, police service areas that have to be drawn somehow, mobile libraries that have to reach rural Germany. I mostly write Julia and Python, I teach in German and English, and my course material is open to anyone.

Alongside the university I founded BeyondSimulations and co-founded decorum SOLAR, which put the same methods to work outside academia.
